Memorial Day 2016: Celebrate by Giving Back
Memorial 2016: Celebrate by Giving Back
Memorial Day 2016 is here! Even though most people celebrate by enjoying BBQ and pool time, the real reason for this federal holiday is to honor Americans who died while serving in the military.
And while Memorial Day doesn't specifically honor those currently serving in the military or veterans, you might feel called to give back to military members in gratitude on this day.
It's in this spirit I've gathered some suggestions to help you give back and make a difference for Memorial Day 2016.
1. Log Charity Miles for an organization that gives back to veterans.
My Memorial Day 2016 started with a 5 mile run to raise money for Team Red, White & Blue via to my favorite app, Charity Miles. This free app lets you earn money for your favorite charity when you turn it on while working out.
While the funds you raise today won't be huge, over time your efforts will make a difference and you can join the Fit Armadillo Charity Miles team to make a bigger impact with us. Check out my past blog post to learn how to join the team HERE.
2. Donate to Our Homes for Troops Fundraiser + Save on our Services
After researching charities to donate to this Memorial Day, I selected Homes for Our Troops.
Head to the Fit Armadillo® fundraising page HERE to donate money to this charity watch approved organization that builds mortgage-free, specially adapted homes nationwide for severely injured Veterans Post- 9/11, to enable them to rebuild their lives.
To encourage you to donate and thank you for doing so, we've set up some special packages you'll qualify for once your donation is complete (so be sure NOT to donate anonymously so we'll have proof):
Give Back to Get Special Fitness Pricing this Memorial Day:
Donation Amount | SPECIAL Fit Armadillo® Offer |
---|---|
$25 | $10 off a personal training session |

$50+ | Get Ready for Summer Special: FOUR 1-on-1 Sessions plus 1 month custom nutrition ($432 Value) for $399 |
3. DON'T shop Memorial Day Sales or DO, but for a purpose.
Yes, as Americans one of our rights is to turn holidays into major sale days, but I'd like to urge you to keep the purpose of the holiday as your focus today.
If you DO want to take advantage of Memorial Day sales, consider this: purchase some items that can be used as a donation to our troops or organizations that give back.
For help finding reputable charities use some of the tips found HERE.
Now that you've read this post, it's time to take action! Which of these 3 ways to give back on Memorial Day will you try? Do you have another idea we've missed? Leave a comment below to share your thoughts:
